Thanks for helping us raise more than €700 for Supporting Health Care in Kenya!

9 de November de 2020

Here at Restaurante Masena, we love to feed people well. And we love it even more when, by feeding people, we can help raise money for those less fortunate than ourselves. At the end of October, we held a special event at the restaurant and our sister business, Bello Horizonte, where we sweet and savoury products for as little as €1, with all proceeds going towards aid for more than 90 children in Kenya. We call it a Solidarity Sale, and we are delighted with the outcome.

What’s the significance of €1? Incredibly, that small amount is enough to ensure that a child is able to eat for a day, and not know the feeling of being hungry. Here in Spain, with our wonderful climate and fertile soil, we have no real shortage of food to eat, so it’s difficult to comprehend a situation where children are going hungry for the want of a single Euro for basic needs like food and medical care. With the help of Isa Cores, we raised €712 to help the children. That’s a magnificent amount, and we thank every person who helped us by buying these beautiful things.

As communities who care, it’s important to work together to help those who need it, wherever they are. We are all connected, because we can all identify with the situation. We want the best for our children and grandchildren, as so do the mothers of the children in Kenya who will benefit from this fun project. The Covid-19 outbreak has affected people all over the world, and those who are vulnerable because they are sick or malnourished rely on help from outside. It doesn’t matter how they receive it, only that they do.

Two years ago, Isa did three weeks of voluntary work in an orphanage in Mombasa, Kenya. She intended to return earlier this year, but wasn’t able to, due to travel restrictions. She therefore decided to organise the sale to benefit the Non-Government Organisation (NGO) Supporting Health Care in Kenya. The international organisation works with babies and children whose parents can’t afford to provide them with health care, education and nutrition, and it’s made a big difference to child poverty in the region.

Along with the Solidarity Sale, there was information about the organisation, and a collection point for clothes and toys to further help the children of Kenya. The Solidarity Sale started on Wednesday 28 October, ending on Sunday 1 November. Once more we offer a big thank you from our hearts to everyone who played a part in organising the sale, and the generous people of Javea and the surrounding area, who came along and bought products or donated useful items.

The biggest thanks of all go to Isa Cortes, for organising the event, spreading awareness of the situation in Kenya, and raising more than €700, always with a smile on her face! As she says:
